El festival de cine fantástico, horror, bizarro y terrorífico Puerto Rico Horror Film Fest convoca a realizadores que quieran mostrar sus películas. La llamada apunta a corto, medio y largometrajes encuadrables dentro de los géneros fantástico, bizarro, ciencia ficción y terror.
El Puerto Rico Horror Film Fest ya es un referente para la producción hispanoamericana de ciencia ficción, terror y fantasía, además es una puerta de entrada para películas que muy difícilmente se pueden ver en Puerto Rico por lo especializado de su género. Esta muestra irá creciendo edición tras edición, en lo que respecta a programación, repercusión periodística y, fundamentalmente su público.
Esta muestra es un espacio fundamental para un tipo de cine que tradicionalmente es olvidado pero de gran aceptación en las audiencias.
El Puerto Rico Horror Film Fest, festeja su segundo año de sangre, terror, irreverencia, humor negro y lo más "indie" del cine de terror.

BEDTIME STORIES
Saw this one today... Lucy Lawless makes a cameo of a business driven bitchy assistant.
The movie was witty and funny. Nice concept, good execution. Adam Sandler seems to be quite a family guy, with so many movies about... family. Who can forget his role in BIG DADDY? And of course, 50 first dates... He keeps his friends around wherever he appears & produces... Just like Tim Burton, huh?

GRINDHOUSE
I had no idea of what this movie was about. I just got to the cinema, and followed the lead. I mean, I was warned about it taking the worst of horror flicks and making fun of it… but since I liked Sin City, and the two Kill Bill deliveries, I didn’t question things much… There must be something good about this after all… Since I had no idea of what to expect, all that went on had a blank slate so it could be internalized. The ride was fun. It is refreshing to see that actual original flicks are still out there. I dislike funny flicks, but this was witty, sour, no holds barred humor… and I loved it. So… Overall, an interesting concept that takes so many details from horror thrillers and action flicks and makes fun of them all… Dark humor, very sarcastic, very gory. The two flicks are very different, of course, showing off each director’s different style. Loved the fake trailers. DON’T and Machete were hilarious! Nicolas Cage’s five second cameo was a treat. Three hours and a half of real entertainment… what a concept!
About each flick:
Planet Terror: With Rose McGowen and Freddy Rodriguez, directed by Robert Rodriguez. “Two doctors find their graveyard shift inundated with townspeople ravaged by sores. Among the wounded is Cherry, a dancer whose leg was ripped from her body. As the invalids quickly become enraged aggressors, Cherry and her ex-boyfriend Wray lead a team of accidental warriors into the night.”
I think this was the best of the two short films. It took many clichés from all those zombie movies that has been made, especially the virus outbreak theme a la Racoon City… but it all worked swiftly. Rose has many mannerisms left from Charm’s Paige, but gives Cherry a believable force at the right times. Corny, yes… Linear, well duh… it is a zombie movie so what you expect! But the delivery of the diverse events meshed together. Watching Bruce Willis dying hard, female power, and the lovely ending in which Cherry Darling finds her true destiny was a nice, enjoyable trip. The lesbian doctor was great, especially her skill with syringes. And I simply loved Wrey, epitome of the good guy in many horror flicks who at the end gives his life for the cause. My only complaint is why must these themes mostly be about strippers? Men and their libido… I dislike nudity and/or heavy sexual references in flicks, so sue me. It is a big reason I am not that crazy about Sin City… or about any of Rod Zombie’s works. But that detail aside, this flick is a nice tribute to oldies but goodies in the zombiefied sci-fi world. Gore, disgusting skin infections that splatters pus around, hack & slashing, nice dialogue, meaningful events, action, a machinegun-leg… See? It’s the simple pleasures in life that really counts.
Death Proof: With Kurt Russell, directed by Tarantino. “Austin's hottest DJ, Jungle Julia, sets out into the night to unwind with her two friends Shanna an Arlene. Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike, a scarred rebel leering from behind the wheel of his muscle car, revving just feet away.”
Hmm… Didn’t like Julia, didn’t like her flimsy flaky friends, the revisited theme of drugs and alcohol equals fun is not attractive to me… So I really enjoyed it very much when Stuntman Mike sent their pieces flying off the air. Don’t get me wrong, the guy was in my bad list when he killed the bleached blonde so easily and without any fun for it… besides the simple thrill of watching desperation… which was poorly depicted as a killer’s motive to do his job. I dislike Kurt Russell, so that doesn’t help his case… but the death of the bimbos in the red car was a smash in every sense. His second attempt to do the same with another group of bimbo’s was a “more of the same”, but then we get to realize that these bimbos are not really just helpless femmes (well, they did left the gullible cheerleader aside… understandably… LOL). Stuntman Mike never saw that comeback coming… LOL Insane femme power, highlighted by a lovely poetic scene of 3 ladies beating the heck out of Russell… Sweet! This flick was about action, speed and payback. Simple, linear… not too brilliant, very cliché, but fun at some points. It’s the joint smoking and the getting drunk and the emphasis on lap dances that really turns me off… but that’s me. Just like Pulp Fiction, the ode to sex, drugs and alcohol and speed are simply… not for my taste… Dark humor and the wrecks made it all bearable.

THE LAST MIMZY
The last Mimzy... I would say simply good idea, bad execution. This late trend of having a brother, a sister, and a so called plot/conflict/whatever is a bit crowded… After Theradiphia, revisiting this kind of story is a bit too soon… Even Zathura had more drama/conflict. The future needs something from us and so sends an emissary to get it… it’s a used plot leaving nothing to the what ifs you might expect in a flick that seemed to promise science fiction and a bit of originality… Seemed… (Sight)
All in all… The little girl excels at her acting, it was nice seeing the actress who was Legally Blonde’s best friend looking so good, it was nice seeing the eye candy of some mild special effects, it was nice seeing the actor from Green Mile… So much potential… ending up in a predictable story that is a nice tale to pass the time but could have gone a bit further. The idea of Alice through the looking glass has been reused too much in movies… Loved the Intel moment and the idea of the big eyed aliens being suits… So we should walk naked into the future? LOL Tibet and mandalas… Again, good idea, bad execution. Rent it and it will do good for a Sunday family afternoon.

Pan's Labyrinth
Everyone told me I must see this movie, and finally I did. Opinion? Yes, it was entertaining, it was nice… Refreshing as a reminisce of gritty Grimm's tales are.
Original? I must disagree with everyone here. No. I just saw a combination of Clive Barker’s creation and Silent Hill mixed up with classic fantasy. The cross of the aftermath of war, the Spain rebels, the cruel captain with the fantastic realms that triggered young Ofelia’s adventures was clever, although not a personal favorite for me as I hate to have war reminisce from the fascist era… perhaps thanks to the Wonder Woman tv series, and too many military oriented mini series and movies… ( I was surprised I really liked V for Vendetta, I usually despise gov-military themes in movies).
Anyway… The concept of the praying mantis inspiring the faerie theme… Yes, they do look like faeries in flight… And that concept is quite old... I just hate bugs. But I will go with the flow… Pan was lovely. His demeanor was evil, his cleverness fearsome, and in the end he was a good guy… A very neutral guy, as a matter of fact... as fickle as Nature. Well, Duh! He is Nature impersonated, literally... The mandrake scenes were touching, especially when it get tossed in the fire. . Hated the powerlessness of the girl’s mom, but that is exactly what went on in that era… and even now… Women that think they cannot go on in life without a man… and then that man turns into their executioner and their kids bane.
All in all, a well thought- well written tale of fantastic realism that is very in your face with gritty events and that has its moments (loved the flesh golem). Del Toro revisits the aftermath of war, giving it a new spin somewhat different from his Devil's Backbone ghost story... Pan's Labyrith turns darker, deeper into the psyche of war's outcome... A lovely piece worthy of being bought and kept in your home's personal collection.
I should note that the actor playing Pan and the pale man (the flesh golem), Doug Jomes has appeared in many films… He was the humanoid cockroach in Mimic, the aquatic Abe Sapiem in Hellboy, Lady in the Water, the Time Machine, Men in Black 2, and on tv series as Buffy Vampire Slayer, CSI, Tales from the Crypt and The Guardian.

Poetry in motion. Refreshing, powerful performances, a simple story that makes a bold statement about freedom, honor, and respect. It has been a long time since a movie was done with such beauty in both acting and script... Women are not helpless wenches, and men are not simple warriors looking for hack and slash... These were Spartans!
Did you actually wonder why the actors at 300 looked or felt so familiar? Where they come from? Let's see...
The king, Leonidas, depicted by Gerard Buttler... who was the Phantom of the Opera at the same tittle movie, was Attila in the tv movie of Attila the Hun, and appeared in Beowulf & Grendel, Reign of Fire, and Tomb Raider Cradle of Life...
The queen, depicted by Lena Headey... who appeared in Brothers Grimm and the Cave, and who will be portraying Sarah Connor in the upcoming tv screenplay "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" which continues the saga of Terminator movies.
The captain, Vincent Regan, was seen in Troy, Unleashed and The Messenger: The story of Joan of Arc.
The one-eyed captain at the end of the movie, depicted by David Wenham, who appeared in Moulin Rouge and the last two movies of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Van Helsing.
And so, all the other actors have been part of movies within this genre... and seem interested in epics and stories based on the Dark Ages, science-fiction and fantasy.
Delightful movie, a must see for anyone... A movie that must be owned.

GhostRider, Bridge to Theradipia, Silent Hill & Happy Feet
Another year, more remakes and prequels… and ideas that are not so original… Some may work, some are lousy, some are too mucho of a disappointment… Still, there are some movies that look promising or that at least seem interesting. On my must see list for the following weeks lurk the following titles: 300, Pan’s Labyrinth, Zodiac, Dead Silence and Premonition. On the coming soon agenda, lurk: Resident Evil Extinction, Shrek3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Spiderman 3, Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix…. Hopefully they will all deliver something good and wicked towards us…
Some remarks on the most recent movies I have seen:
GHOST RIDER: Eye candy, plenty of flames (which I love), a reminisce of a dearly beloved Marvel comics character… A lousy delivery by Nicooas cage, who always seem to play himself no matter what… Maybe it is not his own fault, maybe the writers should be blamed for stupid one-liners and corny dialogues… The emphasis on the busty gal certainly didn’t help the issue. What could have been a nice adaptation as Spiderman was, became a disrupting dance of chaos that really disappoints unless you know nothing of the character. WTF they did with Legion!!! Ugh! Anyway… The main treat: Watching the original Ghost Rider riding his lovely dark stallion, showing off his skills while burning some hooves.
BRIDGE TO THERADIPIA: Very innocent, reminisce of Chronicles of Narnia. I expected a movie with more action involving hardcore fantasy, well… that’s what you get from the ads… But instead it delivers a lovely story of a girl that could be a human version of an elven lass… whose main trait is her unbound imagination. In the movie, she is the storyteller who leads her best friend through a magical world that unfolds at a daily pace. AD&D gamers can relate to this story, as we all daydream while studying or working about magical forests filled with treants, ogres, giants, manticores, giant ravens, dragons and many other fantastical creatures… And just as in the movie, strong binds become real within the people that share that imagination, making them as close as family. The movie leaves you feeling melancholic, wishing that it had ended as magically as it unfolded in terms of the girl’s sudden demise… But of course, thanks to that an important chapter comes true on Theradipia… And a sound bridge is built welcoming its princess…
HAPPY FEET: This may seem too much of a happy choice on my listings, since I mostly lean towards horror/fantasy movies… But I do have a soft spot when it comes to animated features. With a cast such as the one that this penguin movie showcased, it was a MUST see! And it was delightful, a treat to the eyes, to the ears and to the soul. Anyone who has ever felt an outcast, a loner, branded as different… should love this movie. Yes, it is the ones who are different and who have their own rhythm that actually saves the world… This is a must buy movie that should be in everyone’s home collection.
SILENT HILL: I just realized I had said nothing about Silent Hill on this blog. And that’s a shame in itself, for Silent Hill was a very nice adaptation from a video game to a movie. True, it was not completely faithful to the game… But! But! But! The ambience and main storyline remained eerie and intact. The acting was believable, the storyline didn’t stray from the original ideas. This movie was a treat.

The Descent
At first I thought it would be a lame movie about young women buried in a cave or something... We all know how lame was The Cave and so I had very low expectations of this flick. Well, I was in for a surprise. What a treat!
From the beginning it is obvious that the raven haired gal and the blonde wife would have some kind of turnoils... The blonde's guy messed aroung with the other, and as he died a painful death the raven gal made an act of banishment for a whole year.
A year later, the Ya-Ya sisterhood...erm... the femmes who regard each others as friends, reunite for old time's sake as seems that each year they took a quest to an exotic place for thrills... Raven gal decided on some caves to be explored, who had been outside the maps (unexplored)... She didnt tell that to the others, sending the whole group on an adventure that gambles their own lives with ease.
After a cave-in, the women are trapped in an unmapped place and so their woes begin... they discover there maight be another exit towards the surface but that path will lead towards meeting hungry batlike humanoids who thrive on human flesh...buahahahahahah... As corny as it may sound, the blurred effects and storyline, and the performance of the main actors make this movie stand... After so many deaths, the inevitable clash between the blonde and the brunette comes and is... elating. The woman that played the blonde, coming out of a pool of blood reminiscent of Carrie was... Wow! The powerful expression of her ice-blue eyes... so much hate, hunger for retribution, desire for vengueance! Loved that! And the end was very much a la asian horror movies...
I really recommend this flick, worthy of the theaters... among so many movies that should have gone straight to video...

Pirates! and Lady in the Water
Pirates of the Caribbean: I don’t know why I read reviews that tore apart the movie… People seem to loose the focus on this being a PIRATE movie, meaning it’s supposed to be FUN first, logical second… and still, it did follow a storyline that was simple and lighthearted but cool. The scenes at the cannibals place were hilarious. The fight at the moat was awesome. The Kraken was breathtaking. I loved Davy Jones. That scene playing the organ was… so Harlock-Phantom of the Opera-like! And the bayou… Oh! The bayou! I absolutely LOVED the witch! The hero take on Sparrow was really nice, and Lizzy behaving in a pirate’s way was believable. I just disliked the way she fought almost like Xena when she had no training whatsoever… but that’s actually the only fault I found in the movie. I found the ending was appropriate, and Barbosa’s return guarantees more fun. Can’t wait for next year’s last delivery!
Lady in the Water: Well, in a summer of sequels and re-makes, an original movie is a jewel. The tale of a nymph that comes to trigger inspiration that will guide humanity is very touching. Loved it. Innocent, a bit of Clue, a bit predictable, not scary enough for my taste, but a nice child's tale... Wish there were more tales like this...
Lady in the Water: Well, in a summer of sequels and re-makes, an original movie is a jewel. The tale of a nymph that comes to trigger inspiration that will guide humanity is very touching. Loved it. Carnivale
I stumbled into this HBO original series, Carnivale, and so far it has been a delight. I've watched the first season and it was an enthralling experience. Very Big Fish meets the X-files, beautifully deep allegories, dark eerie characters... Can't wait to see chapters 5 to 12. So far its been a great dark magical voyage.

Superman Returns
The people swarming from all corners was a bit discouraging... I hate crowds. But I had the feeling that it might be worth it... And it was. The whole cinema was full... but not of a tiny specific group of nerds that wanted to see the man in tights... no... There were young people, and old people. There were nerds, and parents, and professionals and groupies... It struck me as odd that such a diverse crowd would meet in such an unlikely place and didn't really mind the clashes on... living perspectives... A bunch of kids were placed by their parents at the front seats, and I foresaw a movie with brats jumping and arguing and fussing with popcorn... Groundel had minions of the Colombian armada flanking his right side (who knows, perhaps his long lost rich father is trying to make contact...)... I had airheads flanking my right side... And a mix of married airheads and college brats lined up in the back seats... I foresaw disaster... A very bad idea to go see a movie that everyone wanted to see on its so-called premier... Then the lights went out... The DC logo appears... A light of hope (since the last time, meaning V for Vendetta, was a sincere treat from DC Comics)... And then the music hits you. The same old music that we all know by heart ever since we listened to it at the opening of the original Superman movie... The music takes you. The dance of images takes you deep into space, and the music alone gives you a certainty that it will all be good after all... Enjoy the moment. I know I did.
I expected the people to be annoying, the kids to bother... None of that. From beginning to end the movie grabs your attention. Everyone, from kids to grannies, were entranced by the magic that unfolded... Almost as if time stopped. You won't want the spell to end...
The unfolding drama is just the right amount, the unfolding action is just the right amount... You get no surprises if you are an avid comic book fan... But you do not mind, because you are feasting your eyes and your senses in what the character of Superman is all about... the way he was meant to be. Lex Luthor keeps his ecclectic nature... but with a villains finesse that almost makes you cry. Lois Lane is not just a pretty face, and shows it. Superman is simply himself... nothing more, nothing less... And that deserves an ovation. He was portrayed as I always imagined him. The classis father-son dilemma and conflict is touched with simplicity and depht. The transition from Smallville to Christopher Reeve's legacy were all reflected in the movie as a praise, taking nothing away from them, but adding some dimentions that all fans needed to see. The smile facing the worst odds is genuine and strong... gentle and fierce. It ends leaving you wanting a bit more of this fantastic tale... in which a superhero is very much needed as well as the superhero needs the humans courage.
If you never expected to see Superman at his most vulnerable moment, an almost hopeless state... You'll see it here. His death recreated the covers of the Death of Superman comics series... Lovely detail. How to help an alien entity with human technology? Laugh at it... but human ignorance and ingenuity will move you. And the final visit to see his son, very much into his character... His words to Lois, a bit cold... but then he finally acknowledges the reasons behind her actions, and his smile promises many things... Like a sequel... Duh!
Marvel better come up with something good, because the Xmen3 movie sucked badly... Of course, their bets go towards Spiderman 3 (guest starring Green Goblin and Sandman, plus a bit of Venom) and they better be good at it... So far from DC it has been 2 aces out of 2 comic book adaptations. Third is a charm?

V for Vendetta, Ultra Violet, Korean horror movies and some more...
V for Vendetta: I think that a movie adaptation should be seen as that, a different work of art that may deal with similar issues but will never substitute the literary (in this case graphic novel) nature. Read it, first or later, but ALWAYS read the work because imagination is always BETTER. Tha said, I think that the movie is powerful as it puts in perspective todays political issues. Yes, it takes the anarchy/dictatorship thing from the original work and rips it apart, but right now the reality is based on terrorism, and that is what most people can relate to… Good or bad, it works as it brings to screen a compelling tale that leaves you with plenty of food for thought. Highly recommended! Go see it!
UltraViolet: What a mayor disappointment! Why Milla Jovovich did it? I guess she has joined the fans that adores her body, that’s got to be it. This movie has no deep plot, no originality, no punch… Just awesome wardrobe changes… all of the same clothing in different colors. I loved the hair/clothing color tones which had to do with the ambience of the movie, BUT… HEADACHE! HEADACHE! Damn, I expect more from the star of 5th Element and Resident Evil. Milla, we love your body but… enough is enough.

The red shoes: A twist on the original tale of Hans Christian Andersen… Red shoes with a vengueance… They select who will wear them, and if they don’t like you, you are dead.
The wig: I laughed at the idea, but somehow it can work… A mute sister gives her younger sister a gift to sheer her up as she is a cancer patient and has lost her hair due to the cancer radiation therapies… The wig’s original owner, who died of course, is out in a blood curse... Seems interesting enough.

I can’t wait for Silent Hill, Stay Alive, and the Hill has Eyes. Silent Hill being the top priority, of course…

Astronomers have found a new world orbiting the Sun. The giant lump of rock and ice is larger than the planet Pluto and is now the farthest known object in the solar system.
The discovery was announced by US scientists yesterday and the object has unofficially been named Xena, after the TV series starring Lucy Lawless. 'We have always wanted to name something Xena,' said Michael Brown, a member of the team that made the discovery using telescopes at the Palomar Observatory, outside San Diego, California.
Preliminary observations suggest Xena - officially known as 2003 UB313 - is an extremely strange world. It is currently 9 billion miles away from the Sun, roughly 100 times more distant than the Earth, and is now about three times more remote than Pluto. At its present distance, the Sun will appear so small in the sky it will almost be indistinguishable from other stars.
Xena will also be incredibly cold. Its surface temperature is likely to be only a few degrees above absolute zero, while a year there - the time Xena takes to make one passage round the Sun on its highly elliptical orbit - will be the equivalent of 560 Earth years.
Despite its distance, the little world is also proving to be highly controversial. Astronomers cannot agree whether it is a planet or just a jumped-up asteroid. Its discoverers are claiming Xena is the 10th planet. Other astronomers say it is just another of the Sun's minor planets. There are thousands of minor planets in the solar system, but only nine fully fledged major planets.
The last full planet to be discovered - in 1930 by US astronomer Clyde Tombaugh - was Pluto. But recently some astronomers have campaigned to have Pluto downgraded to 'minor planet' status. It is so small - its diameter is a mere 2,200 kilometres - that it is unworthy of the status of full planet, it was argued. This bid was finally rejected after heated scientific debate.
But now the discovery of Xena, which is only slightly bigger than Pluto, will re-ignite that row. Both Pluto and Xena are components of the Kuiper Belt, which is made up of thousands of small asteroid-like objects, many mere lumps of rock, that sweep the outermost depths of the solar system. As members of the Kuiper Belt, neither Pluto nor Xena should be rated full-fledged planets, it is argued.
The trouble for astronomers is that they do not have an exact definition of a planet. Many say that, if Pluto had been discovered today, it would not have been called a proper planet. In 1999 one group from the US Minor Planet Centre proposed that Pluto be given a new joint classification so that it would keep its position among the major planets, but also be given a designation as a minor planet. The centre dropped the proposal after outcry from those who saw it as a demotion.
Gareth Williams of the centre said he still supported dual status for Pluto, but did not think Xena should be added to the registry of major planets. It should be left as as a minor planet 'permanently', he said.
But Mark Sykes, director of the Planetary Sciences Institute in Tucson, Arizona, disagreed. It should be classed as a full planet, he said. 'The kinds of questions we would ask about this object [Xena] would be planet-like questions,' he said. For example, does it have an atmosphere and what sort of geological processes generated its apparently bright surface?
This view was backed by the leader of the team that discovered Xena. 'It is definitely bigger than Pluto, and I would say it counts out as the 10th planet,' said Brown.
Xena was first spotted in January. Since then scientists have been checking its position and size before making their announcement.
They had hoped to hold back for longer, but a secure website containing details of the discovery was recently hacked and the hacker threatened to release the information.
For Brown, the discovery is particularly satisfying. Five and a half years ago, he bet fellow astronomer Sabine Airieau five bottles of good champagne that he would find a Kuiper Belt object larger than Pluto by the end of last year. In December, having failed, he bought the champagne to send to her. Then 2003 UB313 was spotted on 8 January.
'I lost the bet by eight days,' Brown said. 'But she graciously decided she would let that window slide and I would win the bet. That means I get to drink 10 bottles of good champagne. And I think I will.'

On some old features from this year
The Fog: I am deeply sorry, but the mishmash of plots that didn't really add up were the detail that made this film sink like Titanic... The play on past and present was not well presented, and the only good scenes come at the last minutes of the film... by the way, they absolutely clash with the whole movie. The ghost story was sweet but should have been either left out or made a vital part of the whole story. This is just another movie worthy of rental but not of being seen at theaters...
The Exorcism of Emily Rose: I found it a bit weak... but very realistic. The special effects are very subtle which makes them believable. And since it deals with some dark things that everyone has in the back of their minds, the simple story works... You wake up at 3:00am and you are definitely soiled! LOL The best from this year of bad bad bad live action movies...

Corpse Bride and other sweet things...
Ok, so right now you can run to theaters and watch Corpse Bride. It is the best you will get, if you are into dark humor (I know I am). For the looks of it, Chicken Little looks promising as well...
Have you noticed that the best movies are turning out to be cartoons or animations? I guess they realy allow imagination to fly... Either that or something is wrong about suspense-thieves and cops- intrigue thrillers... Stop the remake business! Be creative!
Speaking of creative, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire looks promising as well... not too kid oriented but the right amount... I think that the pg-13 brand is a bit stupid because these days we should be honest and acknowledge that kids watch worst gorish and live things on tv and video games... and it is ok with them... A pity... it should NOT be ok with the parents... But, parents are too busy working and having their own lives, right? Anyway... Thanks to Peter Jackson for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, since it opened a Pandora Box or Wonders in matters of films of fantasy. Yay!
And, finally, since I mentioned him... Kong looks much different than what I expected... and although I hate monkeys I will definitively go watch this film!

Ok, kiddies, you should put yourselves on watch for these movies, to be released on 2006:
1) SILENT HILLl... (Yay!)
Here's the plot: Rose cannot accept the knowledge that her daughter Sharon is dying of a fatal disease. Over the protests of her husband, she flees with her child, intending to take the girl to a faith healer. On the way, she ends up driving through a portal in reality, which takes her to the eerie and deserted town of Silent Hill. Sharon disappears in Silent Hill, and Rose follows what she thinks is her daughter's silhouette all over town. It's soon clear the town is not like any place she's ever been. It's inhabited by a variety of creatures and a living darkness that descends and literally transforms everything it touches. The human inhabitants—the ones who are left—are trapped and fighting a losing battle against the Darkness. Joined by a cop named Cybil, who has been sent to bring her and Sharon back, Rose searches for her little girl while learning the history of Silent Hill and that Sharon is just a pawn in a larger game. To save her daughter, Sharon makes a deal with a demon in the form of a little girl, and allows the forces of darkness to take the town and destroy those who tried to destroy the demon.
Strays a bit from the original plot, but doesn't look so bad... We'll see how the movie turns out... I absolutely loved the PS Silent Hills series, hopefully the movie wont do to it the same damage done to Alone in the Dark... that renames crappyness!

Browsing through the new horror movies in progress, this one got my attention as it works on the old fear that we have of attics... I think it is cool... But just because an idea is cool doesn't mean that it will be developed correctly...
The Plot: Emma has a strong aversion towards her family’s new house, especially the attic. After moving in, she becomes miserable and reclusive. The rest of her family also seems unhappy and unsettled. The situation escalates one day when Emma is in the attic alone. All of a sudden someone who looks like Emma’s identical twin sister attacks her viciously. Emma is convinced that someone or something is haunting her, and she refuses to leave her house until she can piece the puzzle together. Eventually, Emma suspects her parents of hiding skeletons in the closet from the family’s past and practicing evil wicca rituals. As the clues pile up, she discovers that she did once have a sister named Beth, who died twelve days after Emma was born. Emma realizes that this identical twin apparition may actually be Beth returning to life.
Coming on 2006 by director Mary Lambert... Please, please, PLEASE! Let it not be a teenagers-gone-psycho thriller! Please!

By day, Blaze is a normal man, but at night he is transformed into a burning skeletal demon on wheels who hunts down those who have brought pain to the innocent.

4) UNDERWORL:EVOLUTION (ermm... this kinda sounds like X-MEN Evolution, but what the heck...)
A sequel to Underworld... I don't know what to make of it... The first movie was suppossed to be a big one and it blew on fans of White Wolve's faces! Yup, Underworld is, surprise surprise, a copycat of Vampire the Masquerade and Werewolves Apocalypse... both from White Wolf... Roleplaying fans know this company... The books are sweet, filled with drama and plots... But the movie was superficial and a bit taciturn...Anyway, hopefully the sequel will be better... After all, Saw2 was better than Saw1 (although it sucked the same way). It continues where the first left off and adds more backstory of the two families. Should be released on January 20, 2006, directed by Len Wiseman. The cast: Kate Beckinsale, Scott Speedman, Derek Jacobi, Shane Brolly, Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, Tony Curran, Zita Görög
